We’ve been getting our May showers this week. Or wait—is it April showers that bring May flowers? A guy told me last night that his dad used to say, “A wet May makes lots of grain and hay.”
Either way, this time of year always reminds me why I love spring. The smell of warm rain, the scent of the woods as the trees leaf out, the chorus of birdsong every morning—there’s just something special about it all.
We sent out our first email newsletter last week. I want to apologize for accidentally sending it to all your fax numbers. When the return faxes started coming in, I quickly deleted the fax numbers from the email system—so hopefully that’s a one-time deal! If you’re not getting our email newsletters and would like to, just let me know.
The newsletter will most likely go out twice a month, on the off-weeks from mailing the catalog. It will include the latest listings, previews of stories, upcoming auctions, and more. There are also advertising options in the newsletter, which currently goes out to 10,000 people. If you're interested in advertising there, please reach out to Gaylord.
Here’s a recent quote from one of our lumber reporters: “Confidence is still not very high. I expect prices to rise a little bit because of the tariff changes, but the buyers I’m hearing from are slow-walking any price increases since they have no confidence that this ‘tariff war’ is done. Hopefully by September, we’ll have a shortage of supply and prices will climb rapidly.”
Todd Wilson has another great article in this issue for you dads. I’ll admit—I’m definitely guilty of letting the kids off the hook too easily when they say they “don’t want to.” Sometimes, we just have to stick to our guns and say, “Yes, you have to!”
I hope you enjoy Toby Miller’s article as well. It really gets you thinking about the food choices we make every day. I’m even starting to consider eating broccoli—and I had avocado toast for breakfast the other morning!
Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day and a restful Ascension Day.
Until next time,
Wayne Nisley, Editor
